Femi Kuti

A portrait of WOMAD Festival Sunday night headliner, Femi Kuti, taken for Songlines Magazine.

I only had a couple of minutes with Femi, so I had to think on my feet a bit here. We were backstage, so the background options available were mostly limited to tour buses and various tents scattered around, not ideal – so I decided to kneel down and utilise the sky as a backdrop.

A black and white portrait of Femi Kuti.

The weather on Sunday was constant rain. However, on the plus side, this usually leads to some dramatic textures in the clouds. Overall, I’m quite pleased with the result.

Anyhow, despite the dismal weather, Femi Kuti and The Positive Force went on to perform a storming set.
